My short story "Malware" in The Subtopian

So yesterday actually included not one but two short story publications for me: besides my story "Snoop" in Pithead Chapel, my story "Malware" was just released in the new issue of Subtopian magazine out of Oregon. (You can find it starting on page 13.)

For this latter piece, it really was a marrying of the right story to the right journal. "Malware" is set in a near-future Toronto well on its way into dystopia, and it seem to fit the magazine's mandate of exploring the darker potentialities of society. The piece is a slight departure for me, as it falls within the broader category of "futurism"; but I still think it embraces some of the themes and preoccupations you'll find in my other work. Anyway, give it a read and then come back here and let me know what you think.

  1. Mark, congrats on getting these two stories published. You've written just enough here to pique my interest about your story and Subtopian magazine, both of which I will now have to track down. Nice blog, which I need to spend more time perusing. I've also added your site to my O'Canada blogroll (www.OCanadaBlog.com).

  2. Thanks so much Brett. I'm glad you're intrigued by Subtopian - it and Pithead Chapel, the other U.S. journal I was published in, are both worth checking out.

And yes, please take a peruse around my blog and let me know what you think.

    Best,
    M.
